We all know that Morzine is one of the most beautiful and challenging areas to ride downhill and single track bike paths. There is no doubt about it that Morzine is a world known area. I’m sure that most of us don’t know much about Morzine besides of it being a spectacular arena for vacations. In order to enrich our knowledge about Morzine, I’ve brought together some historical facts that you might be interested in.

Morzine is located in the French Alps, half way between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. In past years, Morzine used to be a farming and slate mining village. Morzine’s recorded history begins in the year 1090, when monks came and took control of the area. After 500 years, Morzine achieves it’s independence from the monks. By the 19th century, thanks to the large slate reserve found in the area, Morzine became a mining center. By the middle of the 19th century, a road that allows access to Morzine is completed. The amazing potential of skiing and biking in Morzine came into use by the beginning of the 20th century. In 1910 the first ski club opened in Morzine and in 1920 the first hotel opened. Over the years since, Morzine has developed into a touring and sporting center. Major sports events took place in Morzine. Although

Morzine has come a long way from being a small farming and mining village, it still has the same magic and a soft, gentle pace of life. It’s rare to find a place such as Morzine, which contains a magical blend of old and new. Any tourist and biker can find a special side of Morzine to connect to, whether it is the challenging downhill trails or the picturesque single track trails.

See you in Morzine!

Get closer to nature by mountain biking

The hobby and sport of mountain biking has spread in a large capacity in the past couple of years. It is very common to see all sorts of people from different walks of life riding mountain bikes together in nature. As a matter of fact, most mountain bikers today live in big cities far away from any bike trail. This is an important fact for any beginning biker to read. Not once I have heard this following question: ‘How can I get into mountain biking? I live so far from nature!’ – My answer to this question is: especially because you live so far from nature, mountain biking is an excellent way to get close to nature.

We all know that most of the time we are all very busy. Most of us don’t have the luxury to take many vacation days in order to go out and spend many hours or days out in nature, yet we all agree that being out in nature, even for just a couple hours can rejuvenate us. A perfect solution for this problem is to go out and ride your mountain bike for a short couple of hours. Many people who live and work in big cities have taken up this wonderful hobby. By mountain biking, one can see a lot of nature’s beauty in a short while; enjoy a rush of adrenalin and all without loosing the strong feeling of connection to Mother Nature (the connection usually missed while riding in a motorized vehicle).

I realized this fact when I was on a vacation in Morzine in the French Alps. I was surprised to see that many people that don’t answer to the nature buff types were quite at home riding single and down hill trails. Many of them told me that they ride regularly. Since then I have taken up that wonderful habit. In order to take my bike with me from the city out to nature, I put my bike on a rack on my car. In our next blog, I’ll give a few tips on how to choose a bike rack best for your needs.
